San Diego, USA

This BBQ joint was opened by two Kansas Citians who left for the sunny skies of San Diego. When a location director stopped in for a beer in the 80s, he liked the place—and brought back Tony Scott to ask if they’d close for a day to shoot a movie. Now, you can drink and dine in the “Top Gun bar” where Goose, Maverick and the gang brought the house down. Nobu: Notting Hill

London, England

When Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts went on a date in 1999’s Notting Hill, their combined star wattage was so great they could have popped out all of the lights in Nobu. Much of the movie takes place in the rarified spaces of Roberts’ movie star character’s favorite spots, and Nobu ranks high among them. They don’t eat any food at Nobu—the date is cut short after Hugh Grant makes a grand romantic gesture—although Roberts does recommend the tuna. On her recommendation, order the tuna tataki with tosazu or spicy tuna sashimi to create a memorable moment on a date of your own. Nobu’s Recipe for Magic: Spicy convos. Spicy tuna. Ice-cold Coca-Cola.
