Escape the concrete jungle and venture into a real one full of greenery at Singapore’s fifth zoological park at Mandai Wildlife Reserve, Rainforest Wild Asia, set to open in March 2025. Covering 13 hectares, the park draws inspiration from Southeast Asia's rainforests, recreating a lush rainforest environment with the planting of nearly 7,000 Southeast Asian trees and shrubs. The new park offers an immersive rainforest trekking experience for all kinds of adventure enthusiasts, plenty of wildlife watching and more unique experiences. Its ranking as one of the world’s best things to do in 2025, according to the global team of editors at Time Out, should tell you just how excited we are for its grand opening.

Say ‘bello’ to Minion Land, a new Universal Studios Singapore zone that’s set to open in 2024. Inspired by the adorable characters from Despicable Me, the new attraction will take over the former Madagascar zone with themed rides, shops, and dining venues. This new zone will be split into three distinct areas, all of which are modelled after various locations in the franchise. Get set to ride Buggie Boogie, the first-ever Minion dance party-themed carousel and feast on minion-inspired dishes and exclusive popcorn flavours.

Escape theme park is back – but it’s not the one you think. Separate from the now-defunct Escape Theme Park Singapore, this upcoming adventure park is a ‘retro-eco’ brand that originates in Malaysia. Forget run-off-the-mill theme parks, Escape Singapore will feature lots of nature and adventure-based rides which are low-tech and self-powered. Escape Penang is known for having the world’s longest waterslide too (it’s a whopping 1.1 kilometres and winds through the rainforest), so we’re looking forward to what the Singapore iteration has in store.

After six long years of construction work, the sleek new Punggol Coast MRT station finally opened in December 2024 at the tip of the North East Line. Though its connected shopping complex, Punggol Coast Mall, only officially welcomes visitors in March 2025, there’s already a list of several confirmed stores ranging across multiple categories, including the new-to-market White Cloud Cafe, serving up Western mains along with pastries, coffee and booze. We’re most excited to see what exciting community events and pop-up bazaars will be held at the new mall’s open-air plaza, directly connected to Punggol Coast MRT station. See what’s in store here.

Held at Resorts World Sentosa, the Singapore edition of Harry Potter: Visions of Magic arrived on our shores bigger and better, with an additional 10,000 square feet of space for even more magical moments to unfold. The exhibition features familiar scenes from the Potterverse including the Room of Requirement, Newt’s Menagerie, the Ministry of Magic, and more, as special interactive technology and multimedia elements weave with captivating soundscapes to bring enchantment to us muggles. It’s truly a magical experience thanks to plenty of realistic replicas from the movies, along with eye-catching illuminations for tons of photo-worthy opportunities.

2. New Bahru

This brutalist structure at Singapore's 46 Kim Yam Road has worn many hats. It was once the headquarters for volunteers during the Japanese Occupation and later, a high school for girls. Now, it's opened as a blockbuster creative enclave housing more than 50 creative and lifestyle brands from Singapore and beyond. Dine at popular Sri Lankan restaurant Kotuwa, grab a coffee at local specialty coffee pioneers PPP Coffee and check in for a class at boutique pilates centre Off Duty Pilates. Some big names have pulled off new concepts here too: think chef Keirin Buck of Le Bon Funk, Mirko Febbrile of Fico, and The Trapeze Group. You can even stay overnight in an 86-room serviced apartment. Check out all you can do, eat, and see and New Bahru right now.

Scenic coastal forest trails, Singapore’s first floating boardwalk, and a lagoon tidal pool: these are just some of the exciting things to look out for at Big Sister’s Island, reopened to the public in 2024 after three years of rejuvenation. Take a stroll along Singapore’s first floating boardwalk that spans 220 metres and is also a coral habitat and research site. Get your swim gear ready because you can now snorkel among rich biodiversity at the island’s new tidal pool during low tide. If you’re not one for a swim, take an intertidal walk instead – there’s lots of marine life to see. Who knows, you might even spot an otter or turtle in the water. Find out more on how you can spend your day exploring the island here.

The world’s largest light, sound and multimedia illumination event took the city by storm when it opened in September 2024. Ever since then, we’ve seen the nocturnal wonderland cycle through various seasonal themes, from halloween to Deepavali and most recently, Christmas. The multimedia light show is where you could admire the world’s tallest illuminated tree – a 47-metre-tall ‘Tree of Lights’ – a dazzling Carousel, and nine different segments filled with lifelike animatronics and thousands of installations lit up with a whopping 20 million LED lights.

No thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, the edutainment attraction KidZania had to close down in 2020. The good news is that it returned in 2024 as KidZania 5.0 after going through extensive refurbishment. Parents and kids can look forward to all the usual good stuff – a replica town where kids can role-play in sustainability-focused ‘jobs of the future’, a new toddler-exclusive gone, an events lounge, and new programmes including a sleepover experience for kids.
