After six long years of construction work, the sleek new Punggol Coast MRT station is finally open at the tip of the North East Line – making it the 17th train station along this ‘purple line’ that stretches all the way to Harbourfront. While the MRT station is already fully functioning as of its opening day on December 10, its connected shopping complex, Punggol Coast Mall, has still yet to welcome visitors. We expect it to be opening progressively over the next couple of weeks, but in the meantime, here’s what you can look forward to there, including a list of already confirmed stores.
Punggol Coast Mall’s open-air community plaza
Punggol Coast MRT station directly connects to Punggol Coast Mall’s open-air plaza, where community events like performances and pop-up bazaars will be held. We already know what you guys are thinking – what, no air-con? In THIS climate? Yes, that’s right folks. The Punggol Digital District is meant to be energy efficient so as to lessen our impact on the environment, and open-air common spaces are one of such measures.
Not to worry though – individual stores will have their own air-conditioning, while the sheltered plaza’s said to be designed in a way that makes it airy and well-ventilated. Rain or shine, your hangout plans won’t be affected.
Punggol Coast Mall’s 120 stores – confirmed shop list thus far
There’ll be over 120 establishments opening at Punggol Coast Mall, and we did a little sleuthing to suss out some that residents in the area can look forward to in the near future. Turns out, the shopping mall will have no shortage of popular brands many of us are familiar with, ranging across multiple categories.
In terms of food, there’s going to be a range of cuisines with Astons, Din Tai Fung, Ha-Jun Korean, Jollibee, Paradise Hotpot, Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks, Sushi-GO, and Sushi Tei. One new-to-market eatery to keep an eye out for is White Cloud Cafe, serving up Western mains like steak and breakfast platters, along with pastries, coffee and booze.
If chilling out at the mall’s aircon-less community plaza gets you a tad sweaty, quench the heat with beverages from Mr Coconut, Luckin Coffee, and Malaysia’s popular Oriental Kopi – or indulge in a scoop or two at ice cream parlour The Better Scoop.
Those who love Japanese goods will rejoice knowing that Daiso and Muji will also be making Punggol Coast Mall their home. For your tech needs, hit up trusty ol’ Harvey Norman. Ladies who want to hit their “new year, new me” fitness goals in a comfortable environment can make a beeline for Amore Fitness, a women’s-only gym that offers a variety of exercise classes from barre to dance and yoga.
A slew of new HDB Built-To-Order (BTO) flats near the Punggol Coast area also means plenty of new families in ‘hood. Those with young children can check out kiddy play facility Wan To Play Ocean Fantasy, as well as PlayFacto School, a student care centre that’ll come in handy for working parents.
The above information is based on store posters plastered around the unopened mall.
Good to know: Punggol Coast Market Village and Hawker Centre
Within walking distance of Punggol Coast Mall and Punggol Coast MRT station sits a soon-to-be-opened Market Village with even more dining options, plenty of greenery, and waterfront views – an oasis of calm for students, office workers, and residents in the area. Foodies can also anticipate the opening of Punggol Coast Hawker Centre, which will see a total of around 40 stalls for affordable daily nosh.
