At The Ice Cream Bar, you’ll find at least seven core flavours – think XO Cranberry, Smoked Cognac, Rum n Raisin and more – along with seasonal selections. They are always experimenting with different flavours and alcohol, so you can be sure of a constantly updating menu.

The Vodka Watermelon, one of the current seasonal flavours, reminds us of a fruity cocktail – sweet and refreshing, it’s just like a well-balanced drink. For something stronger, the Whisky and Nuts is infused with Singleton whisky and topped with almonds; it also comes in a cake with a base that’s soaked in even more whisky. Bonus: You can have your ice cream as a cake, on a waffle or in a cone.

This quaint gelateria boasts a cute and fun interior, which carry into their small selection of alcoholic gelatos. Their rum and raisin flavour ranks as one of the best we've had – the gelato is creamy and smooth without being too sweet, and the raisins are plump with rum. They've also been known to produce an alcohol-based Mystery Flavour from time to time; one previous flavour mixed green tea and whiskey – a winning combination that we hope to try again.

From RM10 per scoop.

The artisanal alcoholic ice creams here come in some of the most unique flavours we’ve tasted; think red wine, beer and stout, and bourbon brown sugar. Try the red wine ice cream – it’s made with a full-bodied Chilean red wine. The beer and stout ice cream, though with their own distinctive tastes, are served together. The beer ice cream is hoppy with a lime crisp freshness and a smooth finish, while the dark stout has an intense caramel sweetness to it. When the ice creams start melting, the beer mingles with the stout, creating a third flavour that’s almost like shandy, making for a sweet surprise at the end.

You’ll only find the alcoholic gelatos by Cielo Dolci (featuring 15 flavours and counting) at Whimsical. Everything is made in-house; sibling gelato makers Keewin and Seow Huan are the brains behind recipes like the Bailey’s & Chocolate and Red Sangria. The Bailey’s & Chocolate’s classic combination of coffee and cocoa works wonderfully – the creaminess of the Bailey’s mixes well with chocolate chunks, creating a sweet dessert with a full bite. A word of warning: Due to its texture, the gelatos melt faster than usual. We suggest having it with a waffle to help soak it all up.

Smoked Cognac is one of the more elusive flavours among Inside Scoop's range of ice creams, which makes it even more satisfying when you finally get your hands on it. Made with decadent dark chocolate imbued with five percent smoked cognac, the ice cream is rich and the cognac sure tastes strong. Go big with a double scoop, on a cone or pair it with their fluffy homemade waffles.
