Health Land is a name synonymous with high-quality wellness experiences in Thailand, and with branches across the country, it’s a well-trusted and quality institution.

The Chiang Mai branch offers a serene escape from the city's hustle just off Chang Khlan Road, with an expected menu that combines traditional Thai massage techniques with premium spa products and experience.

Walk through the door and you’ll be welcomed by highly trained therapists and a setting that feels more like a hotel lobby than a spa. But beyond the products and ‘check-in’ counter, corridors and lifts will take you to massage rooms that are hygienic, clean and private.

Whether you go for their signature Traditional Thai Massage, a Therapeutic Aroma Oil Massage or the deeply rejuvenating Royal Thai Package, you’re in for a therapeutic experience that won’t break the bank at Health Land Chiang Mai.

Fah Lanna Spa is a sanctuary of calm, combining traditional Lanna-style interiors with top-tier massage services and treatments. Classic Thai massage is best here, although their menu offers a lot for all preferences.

With techniques rooted in Lanna traditions, the techniques, herbs and oils used transport you into the spiritual world of northern Thailand, as you melt into the bed and let your mind wander across mountains and rice fields.

With two locations, The Fah Lanna Spa in the Old City is especially atmospheric, with lush gardens and wooden walkways adding to the charm, and, from our experience, the best therapists out of the two.

With service and treatments on par with the big players in town but at about half the price, Makkha Spa is a real hidden gem, hidden in a few locations deep within the old city walls.

The Ancient House branch is set in a charming, sixty-year-old teak wood house, with treatments that reflect the history and luxury of the destination. Just around the corner, the Colonial Gardens branch is more modern – a newly built spa taking inspiration from the strong architectural influences of the colonial era. Walk in and be enveloped by soaring ceilings, cool marble tiles, glass panellings, cascades of sunlight and a turquoise blue pool next to a floor-to-ceiling living green wall.

The two other locations, Night Bazaar and Rachadamnoen, are more tourist-focused, catching passers by on their exploration of markets – perfect for when your feet are sore and you need a moment’s peace.

Whichever one you go for, Makkha Health & Spa is ideal for those wanting a luxurious yet reasonably priced experience. Their signature Thai oil massage is a great option for those who prefer a mix of relaxation and therapeutic pressure, while half day packages will see you making the best use of your time.

Lila Thai Massage isn’t just a great place for a massage – it’s also got the benefit of being a social enterprise supporting women who have completed rehabilitation programs, letting you have a double whammy of good feelings when you come here.

Founded by a former director of the Chiang Mai Women’s Prison, this massage spot offers high-quality, affordable massages performed by women of minor crimes, currently or recently released from the prison.

The concept is to provide them with a skill and the business acumen to continue their life along a more positive path once their time inside is complete, all endorsed by, and meet the requirements of, the Chiang Mai Public Health Department. A win-win for relaxation and community impact.

There’s a few venues dotted around the Old City, with various treatments on offer. We like the Aloe Vera after Sun Treatment, perfect after a day in the hot summer sun. Or, if you’re looking to treat some joint or bone issues, the ancient Tok Sen Massage is one to look into.
