In a narrow calle behind the Danieli Hotel, this is a firm favourite with Venetians, whom you’ll find outside the entrance in great numbers, waiting to squeeze inside for a coffee, drink and something from the cake cabinet. As well as a tempting array of snacks and traditional cakes such as mammalucchi (deep-fried batter cakes with candied fruit), Da Bonifacio is famous for its creative fritelle (fried dough balls, with wild berry, chocolate, almond or apple fillings), which appear in January and remain through Carnevale.
