This wonderfully welcoming locanda has beamed ceilings, painted wood panelling, leaded windows and rich colours; there’s even a tiny water entrance. The immaculate bedrooms are ranged over three floors (there’s no lift) and are furnished in a fairly restrained Venetian style. Choose between a canal view (which can be noisy) or quieter rooms overlooking the square.
Breakfast is exceptionally generous. The team that runs the place bend over backwards to ensure their guests are happy. This delightful hotel is fiendishly diffcult to find: go through the iron gate almost opposite the church in campo San Gallo, bear left into a smaller campo and you’ll see the sign.
