The small and bustling shop near Largo de Camões has now gained a larger space in the Mercado da Ribeira, where Lisbon’s best pastéis de nata are served fresh from the oven all day long. The formula for success is no secret, and it’s really very simple: artisanal production, high-quality ingredients (whole eggs, quality butter instead of margarine, just the right amount of sugar, and no preservatives) and the preparation (by hand, of course) of the puff pastry, which requires months of training to master. The result is a crispy, flaky pastry and a custard with just the right sweetness, earning Time Out’s admiration and propelling it to the top of TripAdvisor’s list of the best places to eat in Lisbon.
