While our own elections may be over, there's no reason not to be interested in the elections of other countries – we're looking at you America. If you've been following the events happening in the USA for the past few months, you might've grown addicted to the chaos of it all. This week, part of that chapter comes to an end with one question: Donald Trump or Joe Biden?

While public screening in bars and restaurants might not be allowed in Singapore for now because of the current situation, you can still watch the election results unfold from home. Why not liven it up a bit and change it up to a mini party with friends who are just as intrigued by the elections (maximum five people – let's still be law-abiding people). We rounded up some options on how to get the party started, from ordering baby back ribs to chugging some PBR.

Wear some red, white and blue outfits

Start the party with some quite literal symbolism – wear the colours of the flag. While it is illegal to display another national flag in Singapore (it's a fine of $500), other than the Singapore flag, you can dress up in red, white, blue and stripes; wear your shoes around the house, and turn on the news. Let's get this party started.

Pre-game with American beer

Before things get intense, crack a cold (American) one with your group. Go with a classic like Pabst Blue Ribbon or explore the range of craft beers from the extensive catalogue at local online beer shop, Thirsty's. Shop according to country on the site and browse through all the beverages it offers. Pro tip: order two cases of Pabst Blue Ribbon win some free merch – y'know, to make the party more authentic.

Place your bets

Get the excitement going by getting your friends to place bets. We're not talking about all-out million-dollar investments but you can keep it light with dares and challenges – or $1 or $2 bets.

The party playlist

What's a party with no music? Throw together some Top 40 hits from the US of A. We're thinking a little bit of country, a little bit of Miley Cyrus (obviously), a lot of Beyoncé, some classic rock like Journey and Bon Jovi and the ultimate celebration song: Fireworks by Katy Perry (because we aren't allowed real fireworks).

But really, you should be getting the bacon cheeseburger ($17) that comes loaded with two rashes of applewood-smoked bacon. Layer your burger with all the fix-ins you want – there’s a total of 15 to choose from – and enjoy a greasy, sloppy stack that has earned the brand a loyal following. A selection of all-beef hot dogs (from $10) and sandwiches (from $8) is also available.

It’s not a complete experience American diner without french fries (from $7), and the ones at Five Guys are treated with reverence. Have it lightly salted, Five Guys-style, or spiced up with Cajun seasoning. Here’s a hot tip: get the spice mix served on the side to enjoy it both ways.

Wash your meal all down with a classic Five Guys Shake ($10) for maximum enjoyment. Concoct your own creamy, decadent treat from 11 different mix-ins – bacon optional, but highly encouraged for a unique, salty crunch between sips of sweet.

  • Pizza

Everyone knows the best communal food is pizza. Lucky for us, there are plenty of great pizza options in Singapore. Sample Beyoncé's favourite pizza here in Singapore at Lucali BYBG. Look forward to its famed 18-inch creation that comes slathered with a four-hour secret tomato sauce, and a generous sprinkle of ‘Brooklyn combination’ cheese – buffalo mozzarella, low-moisture mozzarella, and shaved Grana Padano. Other stellar options include Blue Label Pizza and Alt Pizza.

Grill it up

Thinking of doing a good ol' barbecue? Leave it to the pros. Singapore is home to some eateries known for its grilled meats and barbecue ribs.

Meatsmith offers islandwide delivery with its Xpress menu which includes a variety of feast sets that include its popular brisket springrolls, pork ribs, buffalo wings, Nashville chicken and burgers.

For affordable barbecue ribs and meats fresh from the smoker, Smokey's BBQ also offers plenty of options. The only catch is that it's for takeaway and pick-up only.

It doesn't always have to be a grease fest. This Seattle-style concept eatery was inspired by the founders' trip to the Hama Hama oyster farm in Washington – and now, they’ve set up seafood joint Humpback.

Offering delivery options now, along with Jigger & Pony cocktails and Live Twice sandos, Humpback has created exciting seafood feasts you can enjoy from home. Good for two and four people, the set menus include a variety of dishes from the restaurant like crab croquette with aioli; lemon scampi spaghetti with black pepper and pecorino; purple clams with olives, yellow onion and saffron broth; whole grilled seabass with black olive tapenade and lemon; and flourless chocolate cake with Jameson Whiskey and sea salt.

Sweet treats

While the bevs and savoury food is settled, don't skip the desserts and sweet treats. Sandwich maestros Park Bench Deli offers DIY PB&J sandwich packages which include strawberry rhubarb jam, almond hazelnut butter and even the Bakery Brera brioche loaf which can make up to five sandwiches.

If you're craving pie instead, hit up Windowsill Pies for a twist on American classics like the Heritage Morello Cherry Pie ($67) that has pitted Morello sour cherries baked into a pie topped with a handwoven pastry lattice, the Apple Frangipane Pie ($63) which is a baked apple pie with rum raisins and a classic Pecan Pie ($63) baked with butter, brown sugar, crushed pecans, and a hint of espresso.

Ready the popcorn

Now that the results are unfolding, it's time to get serious. But that doesn't mean you have to stop eating. Ready the giant bowls of popcorn for the tense moments and moments of disappointment – there's going to be plenty.
