Dynamic northern Italian brewer Teo Musso is turning more and more of his fellow countryfolk into beer drinkers. Open Baladin, with its ‘wall of beer’ – about 100 labels served bottled, displayed up one wall of this buzzing venue – and a choice of 40 or more on tap, is his first Roman venture. Bar-snack food, from mounds of chicken wings to gourmet hamburgers, melt-in-the- mouth mozzarella and a signature scrambled egg with bacon helps the brews from many of Italy’s smallest and most interesting producers slip down nicely. This is not a venue for a romantic tryst: most nights, downstairs is utter chaos, upstairs only slightly less so. But if you’re seeking beer and bustle, this is your place.
