Here's why we'll be eating these donut grilled cheese sandwiches all summer
Léché Desserts is, without a doubt, one of the city's premier donut destinations and definitely worth the trip. Soft, pillowy and bursting with bold and rotating flavors that go from a divine vegan passion fruit to an over-the-top s’mores rendition, Léché regularly does donuts more than justice.
When Atwater Market reopened its restaurant section for its summer 2021 season, Léché added a new outpost in the form of a food stall at the Atwater Market. That's where donuts, cookies, ice cream sandwiches and decadent milkshakes are all on offer, but in an attempt to think outside the box, the mad scientists in the Léché laboratory have devised a devilish new creation: donut grilled cheeses.
Imagine a sweet and airy loop of fried dough, cut in half and flipped inside out, then filled with bacon, caramelized onions and cheddar, and crisped up in a panini press, the edges hardening like the top of a crème brûlée. Each bite is amazing, with various degrees of sweet, savory, umami, crispy, and gooey intertwining in what simply amounts to wave after wave of sheer, unadulterated pleasure.
If you don’t mess with swine, tomato, mozzarella and pesto, vegan cheese and pickle options are also up for grabs.
That's it. Just thought you should know.
