Hungry for hygge? Find it in these five bakeries

Have you tried hygge yet? While it sounds like some kind of autumnal virus, it’s actually a Danish concept that, roughly translated, means feeling cosy. It embraces all the things we love – good cake, fine coffee and quality time with our mates, without a single trip to Ikea in sight. Here’s where some of us hyggers are currently snacking.   1. Scandinavian Kitchen, Fitzrovia Flickr / Magnus D Packed with a section of 600+ delicacies from across Sweden, Noway, Denmark and Finland, this is our go-to café. Here you’ll find plenty of must-have kanelbullar (cinnamon buns) and kladdkaka – a dense chocolate cake that in our opinion, beats a brownie hands down. 61 Great Titchfield Street, W1W 7PP 2. The Bread Station, Hackney   Loaf & Latte ☕️ Our whole wheat loaf 🍞 Made from whole soaked un-sifted and natural wheat grains. English organic wheat milled on-site and Italian flour, biga, sea salt, water. Baked in our stone oven. A photo posted by The Bread Station (@thebreadstation) on Sep 25, 2016 at 5:13am PDT This Danish bakery in London Fields certainly knows its sourdough from its rye loaf and with Michelin-star chef Christoffer Hruskoba and Danish baking guru Per Bun on board, you can see why. With their own stone mill in-house – which creates delectable artisan breads and pastries – this bakery is putting Scandi baking well and truly on the map in London. Our top tip: the hindbaersnitter. 373 Helmsley Place, London Fields, E8 3SB 3. Nordic Bakery, Soho Flickr / Leon

Four things to do in London if you love dogs but can't have one

A photo posted by Olivia Bartholomew (@mywanderdog) on Aug 23, 2016 at 1:32am PDT   Dogs are brilliant. However, chances are your tenancy agreement (and busy schedule, and post-work cocktail soirées, and lack of money) just won’t allow for it. But fear not – here are four ways to get puppy-induced highs in London without having to actually own one. Yes, really.      A photo posted by Doga Yoga For you And Your Dog (@dogamahny_) on Aug 30, 2016 at 4:04pm PDT   Become a Doga teacher So you’ve mastered the cobra and lotus positions, but have you tried downward-facing dog… with a dog? If you love pups, you can train to become a qualified Hatha 'Dogahmy' Yoga teacher with Doga in Camden. Said to increase the bond between canines and humans, Doga will give you all of the benefits of the usual endorphin-releasing yoga class, plus a cuddle or too with your class's pooches.      A photo posted by L'Escargot Restaurant (@lescargotsoho) on Jul 12, 2016 at 7:03am PDT   Meet Doris the dog at L'Escargot Head to The Upstairs Club at L’Escargot in Soho and you’ll feel like you’re on the film set of 'Hotel for Dogs'. You know you live in Herne Hill when…

You’d be forgiven for thinking that Herne Hill – a tiny neighbourhood between Brixton, Dulwich and Camberwell – is nothing more than a through road. But for those in the know, this south London pocket is a veritable haven filled with independent businesses, restaurants, craft beer on tap and a huge park. Want to know what it’s like to live there? Here are some common traits of real life Herne-Hillers.   A photo posted by Jackie James (@cafeprovhernehill) on May 6, 2016 at 6:58am PDT You boycott chains Whether it’s Café Provencal’s smoked salmon omelette, Sesame Deli's Greek mezze platter or Pullens' Mexican eggs for brekkie, Herne Hill has no shortage of tantalising independent restaurants for you to fill your stomachs. In fact, with so much brilliant dishes on offer and the buzzing markets and pop-ups of Brixton and Peckham only up the road, it’s surprising the Pizza Express on the corner of Half Moon Lane gets any business at all. Brockwell Park is your back garden (even if you have a garden) Offering views of the London skyline, community greenhouses, a BMX track and perhaps most importantly of all, plenty of space, Brockwell Park is a true home from home – a pack of green parakeets has even taken up permanent residence there. Buzzing all year round, Brockwell Park is the meeting point and celebrating your birthday there is customary (you’re guaranteed to see at least one person with balloons when you visit).
