This curated vintage shop doubles as Miami’s coolest new community space

Sustainability isn’t a new trend in fashion or design, but in a city known for its love affair with all things luxury, Miami’s uptick in community-driven flea markets, thrift shops and secondhand boutiques is a refreshing plot twist. Local fashionistas, design enthusiasts and the vintage-curious seemingly can’t get enough pre-loved pieces. Whether you’re active on Depop or a regular at the Magic City Flea, there’s no denying the magic of finding a nostalgic treasure that speaks to you, and it’s this very magic that inspired Memento Assemblage. On the outskirts of Midtown and the Design District, Memento Assemblage is redefining the concept of vintage shopping. Seamlessly blending the art of collecting and connecting, this intimate space isn’t just about selling vintage, it’s about creating a community.  Photograph: Gina MartinsMemento Assemblage Miami’s vintage surge is being led in large part by young people seeking out like-minded friends. So it’s not surprising that Memento is as much about the treasures as it is about the people. “You can collect objects, but you can also collect experiences and connect with each other,” says Memento Asseblage founder Nathalie Dessus of her concept. Dessus has been in the game for almost as long as she can remember, inheriting her grandfather’s passion for collecting and curating vintage everything since her teenage years. “In my mid-20s, my apartment was starting to look like a museum, borderline thrift store,” she says. By 2020, she h
Miami is one of the top 10 most dog-friendly cities in the U.S.

Miami is one of the top 10 most dog-friendly cities in the U.S.

We’ve all seen a lady walking around Publix with a small white dog in a stroller. Your friend probably has a poodle or labradoodle that is always styled with chic bows (and gets groomed weekly).  Or maybe your mom’s favorite child is the puppy she never wanted that now has its own car seat. Whatever the case, one thing is for sure: Miamians love their dogs, and now there’s data that confirms it. According to a recent study, Miami is one of the top 10 most dog-friendly cities in the United States, taking the No. 7 spot. The data shows that the 305 is home to more than 450 affordable dog-friendly hotels and over 230 restaurants where they roll out the red carpet for Fido. Beyond the good eats and iconic hotels, you and your fur baby can frolic at even more quintessential Miami spots, like dog-friendly beaches and cultural destinations. Head over to Hobie Beach to catch some sun and waves while your pooch is free to roll around and mingle with other doggos splashing in the shallow surf.  For a bit of oceanfront exercise, take your four-legged companion on a leashed run along the breezy Miami Beach Boardwalk or at South Pointe Park. Dogs are also welcome at the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens, where you can stroll together on a self-guided tour.  If you’re in the mood for some high-fashion window shopping, leash up and strut through the Design District to find several dog-friendly spots. Pristine, treelined sidewalks and funky public art installations make this neighborhood a haven

How to have the most “clean girl” day in Miami, including where to eat and play

Last year, it was Hot Girl Summer. This year, it’s Brat Summer. The meme-fueled trends are fleeting, but the lifestyle behind the famed “clean girl” aesthetic is still going strong. Scroll the TikTok hashtag and you’ll find an endless stream of slicked-back buns, no-makeup makeup tutorials and chic, minimalistic capsule wardrobes. Beyond the aesthetic, though, the “clean girl” embodies an aspirational lifestyle based on a mindset of simplicity and self-care. From matcha lattes to cold plunges, pilates studios and Hailey Bieber-inspired smoothies, Miami is chock-full of opportunities to try out the trend for yourself. It might not be for everyone, but if you’re clean-girl-curious or already a dedicated subscriber, we’ve made it a bit easier to navigate it all. I went to the iconic Balloon Museum from "Emily in Paris." Here’s what it was like

If you haven’t seen the show, you’ve surely seen it all over your TikTok and Instagram feeds. Stepping into the Balloon Museum’s “Let’s fly” exhibition in Mana Wynwood feels like diving head-first into a fantastical dreamscape—literally. Upon entering, guests are led through a giant kaleidoscopic tunnel of curved LED screens and mirrors. Created by the OUCHHH collective and dubbed AAI Dataportal of Miami, the very first piece of air-inspired art transports you to a psychedelic cocoon of swirling colored beads. Based on millions of data points from Miami’s digital environment, and specifically, the city's air data, these abstract forms were so hypnotizing, I wasn't sure they could be topped. Of course, I was wrong. The ethereal tunnel leads you to a dark, cavernous space filled with mind-bending, larger-than-life installations by some of the world's most esteemed artists working in immersive and digital mediums right now. Early on in the exhibition, we came across alien-like flowers that "bloom" as you pedal on a bike, large globes that swing as you push them and glowing orbs seemingly suspended in mid-air.  Video: Alexandra De Angulo for Time Out Many of the pieces incorporate gentle wind and disorienting electronic soundtracks. As you continue down the path of never-ending art, look left, right and even above you to find dreamy, Dalí-inspired horses (Quadriga by Max Streicher) and a fiery sea of red balloons sprouting from tree branches (Balloon Trees by MyeongBeom Kim)

I hopped on the Brightline to experience South Florida’s art scene firsthand. Here’s what you need to know

I hopped on the Brightline to experience South Florida’s art scene firsthand. Here’s what you need to know

Miami is a lot more than nightlife and beaches—it's a powerhouse in the global art scene. With a flourishing arts district, annual tentpole events like Art Basel and satellite fairs like Untitled, Miami has quickly become an international art hub. But the hottest art spots in South Florida aren’t just limited to the 305. The Tri-County art scene has grown tremendously in recent years and I, a born-and-raised Miamian with a passion for the arts—wanted to check it out.  To do so, I spent a recent Saturday chugging my way up from MiamiCentral to Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach on the high-speed Brightline rail. Though you can’t currently hop on and hop off at stops along the way to your final destination without buying an additional ticket, I discovered that each stop is worthy of its own day of exploration. As such, I’ve outlined the best South Florida art destinations along the Brighltine route, along with places to eat and things to do if you have more time. Photograph: Alexandra De Angulo for Time Out Full disclosure: Brightline provided me with Premium tickets for my journey, which include free snacks and drinks, access to the Premium lounges at each station and $10 Uber vouchers to shuttle from the stations. For a more budget-friendly option, we recommend riding Smart or even SmartSaver. Tri-Rail has just introduced an express train between West Palm and Miami: here’s what you need to know

A new express train service will soon offer commuters a seamless, one-seat ride to and from Downtown Miami and West Palm Beach. South Florida’s largest rail system, Tri-Rail, will launch the route on July 1.  Forget shuffling between trains and finding connecting shuttle services. Just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride—it’s a quick one. This train will zoom you to and from the West Palm Beach and MiamiCentral stations in just 95 minutes, speeding up the existing ride time by more than 30 minutes.  The train departs the West Palm Beach station at 6:30am, with short stops at the Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport at Dania Beach and the Metrorail Transfer stations before arriving in Downtown Miami at 8:05am. For a convenient return commute, the express train will depart from MiamiCentral to West Palm at 5:35pm. If the express train doesn’t fit your schedule, don’t fret just yet. The Tri-Rail will continue to maintain its robust service alongside the new express option. Travelers can still count on 26 weekday trains and 23 weekend trains serving MiamiCentral, keeping Downtown Miami and all non-express trains at the Metrorail Transfer Station easily accessible.   For all the night owls, Tri-Rail offers later departure times to and from the Miami Airport Station, accommodating airport traffic and any employees working late shifts.  Combined with expanding Brightline routes, Miami's public transit options continue to grow, albeit it slowly.
