Europe is blessed with a blooming network of sleeper trains, which is great news for our comfort and for our lovely planet – you can read about all the ones we’re excited to try out next year.
One of the biggest players in Europe’s overnight train network is Nightjet, the sleeper train branch of Austrian rail company ÖBB. The company recently launched snazzy new carriages featuring solo sleeping pods, which have already been rolled out on some services – and next year, passengers travelling from Amsterdam will get the chance to book their own private pod.
The trains will have 28 individual sleeping pods for solo travellers, complete with their own loo and shower, alongside brand-new four-person couchettes and wheelchair-accessible cabins.
And they'll be much roomier, too, as Nighjet’s standard six-person compartments will be opened up to allow more space for bike and large luggage storage.
Desperate to try one out as soon as possible? Well, though we don’t have a launch date for these trains on the Amsterdam route just yet, they are already in use on the Vienna-Bregenz, Vienna-Hamburg, Innsbruck-Hamburg, Vienna-Rome and Munich-Rome routes.
