Whether you’re headed there in an aquamarine ‘fit to get some photos for your Instagram or you’re just an eighteenth century Baroque fanatic, the Trevi Fountain is on everyone’s Rome agenda.
However, visitors to the site over the last few weeks have been left underwhelmed upon arriving at the site, and not because of the crowds or even a new ticketing system.
The fact is that due to the enormous celebrations to take over Rome next year for the Jubilee, the fountain has been drained, the coins removed, and for all those looking to chuck in one, two or three cents, they can only do so in what looks like a bath – here’s how social media has reacted.
