What country won the most Olympic medals?

Which country won the most medals per capita?

Every Olympics, the medal tables are dominated by two of the world’s biggest countries: China and the USA. But when it comes down to population size, the medals won by much smaller nations are all the more impressive when you have some more context.

According to stats from Eurosport, the country that won the most medals per capita was Grenada, which had a total of two, but a population of just 112,000. In second place it was Dominica, which had one from its population of 67,000, and St Lucia came third, with two medals across its 184,000 population.

Which won the most gold medals?

The USA and China share the title of the most gold medals, claiming 40 each. It was a close call, with Team USA’s women’s basketball claiming victory in the final event of the Games to ultimately tie with China. In third place was Japan (20), then Australia (18), France (16), Netherlands (15) and Great Britain (14).

Which won the most medals in total?

This was also the USA, which topped the table with a staggering 126 medals in total, steaming ahead of China, which claimed 91. In the US, the press tends to report medals based on totals rather than total number of gold, and by that metric Team GB ranked third with 65 medals in total, one ahead of France.

Which athlete won the most Olympic medals?

Swimmers dominated the ranks when it comes to the most decorated individual athletes at these games. China’s Yufei Zhang took home the most medals overall, claiming five bronze and one silver, and five more Olympic swimmers claimed five medals each! They are: Leon Marchand (four gold, one bronze), Torri Huske (three gold, two silver), Mollie O’Callaghan (three gold, one silver, one bronze), Regan Smith (two golds, three silver) and Kaylee McKeown (two gold, one silver, two bronze).
