Perched on a cliffside, this bright-white windmill on the Greek island of Zakynthos was once used to grind wheat to make flour. Now, it’s been renovated – and you can book it on Airbnb.
All breezy linen and driftwood, the dinky interior is perfect for a couple (and has just about enough room for a couple of young children, too). It’s made up of three floors, with the kitchen and bathroom on ground level and two more bedrooms on the floors above. From the master bedroom, you can enjoy views of the mountainous island and the Ionian Sea.
Be warned, though – you are rather isolated, and the paths to the windmill are seriously steep. You’re probably also going to need a car as the windmill isn’t very near any other settlements. Still, if that sort of seclusion sounds appealing to you, this could be your ultimate hideaway.
Zakynthos (or Zante) is probably best known for its partying, but the island is also famed for its pristine beaches and rare wildlife – including endangered loggerhead turtles. Fancy booking in a stay? Prices start at £240 ($240) per night, based on a three-night minimum stay. Find out more on the official Airbnb listing.
