Now that the magnificent (if slightly bizarre) opening ceremony is out the way, we can focus on what the Olympics is really about – showstopping sport.

Highlights so far include that legendary comeback by Andy Murray and Dan Evans for Team GB in the men’s tennis doubles and Diyora Keldiyorova’s historic gold medal win, which makes her the first Olympic champion for Uzbekistan in judo. However, there’s lots more gripping action to keep you entertained throughout the day so here is a schedule for the Olympics day four.

Key athletes to watch

There are 14 gold medal events going ahead today, but the most highly anticipated of those have got to be the women’s artistic gymnastics finals which will of course star Team USA’s megastar Simone Biles.

In swimming there’s three finals: the women’s 100m backstroke, the men’s 800m freestyle and the men’s 4 x 200m freestyle relay, which will feature former Team GB Olympic champion Adam Peaty, who won silver in Sunday night’s men’s breaststroke final.

Why has the triathlon been suspended?

The men’s individual triathlon final was meant to take place today at 8am-10.30am CEST (7am-9.30am BST), but due to fears about the water quality in the Seine, it has since been postponed. The decision was a joint one made by Olympic organisers, World Triathlon officials and City of Paris representatives.

‘Paris 2024 and World Triathlon reiterate that their priority is the health of the athletes. The tests carried out in the Seine [Tuesday] revealed water quality levels that did not provide sufficient guarantees to allow the event to be held,’ officials said in a statement. It’s thought that while water quality was up to scratch last week, the torrential rain which occurred throughout the opening ceremony and the weekend affected the river’s content.

The men’s individual triathlon has been moved to tomorrow, Wednesday July 31 at 10.45am, and the women’s is still scheduled for 8am.
