Working through Covid was exceptionally risky business for a lot of us. But even for those who were lucky enough to be able to WFH, it was still exhausting. With no break or respite from the misery, the pandemic took a huge mental toll.
One company in Cardiff, Wales, is recognising the sacrifices of its workers during the pandemic by treating them all to a holiday. Yolk, a recruitment firm, is jetting its 55 staff off to sunny Tenerife for four days in April. The trip will cost Yolk £100,000 ($135,000), so hopefully the company’s employees all actually like each other.
While Yolk suffered in 2020 due to a shrinking jobs market, in 2021 the company brought in record profits. After the stresses of remote and hybrid working, it decided to treat its employees to an all-inclusive getaway.
While few firms have been so radically generous as Yolk, a few other companies rethought the way they do holidays during Covid, from enforcing mandatory ‘recharge days’ to experimenting with unlimited leave. Last week, digial bank Monzo announced that, from now on, it would allow its staff three months of paid leave every year.
Could your company be next to swap dreary offices for sunny skies and beachside cocktails? We sure hope so. See you on the beach.
