This majestic elephant is among the winning snaps at the Sony World Photography Awards 2022

From noble animals to forbidding landscapes, these are the most incredible photographs of the past year

You wouldn’t want to get in the way of this guy. Towering above the camera, the elephant looks majestic, powerful, frightening – and we’re just lucky to get a glimpse of the fella.

The photograph, taken by Kuwait’s Mohammad Mirza, was one of the winners in the ‘national’ category of the Sony World Photography Awards 2022, which recognised one amazing photo per nation by photographers from more than 60 countries.
