It’s official: Time Out Market is opening in Barcelona on Friday July 5

The grand food market will cover 5,250 square meters on the upper floor of the Maremagnum, bringing together a curated selection of fourteen kitchens, a full-service restaurant, and four bars (two indoor and two outdoor) with stunning views of the sea and the city. It’ll swing open its doors at noon on July 5 and remain open 364 days a year, from 10am to midnight.

As well as the opening date, we can also share the third wave of market additions, featuring a Catalan cuisine restaurant with two Michelin stars, one of the best bars in the world, and an outlet for delicious natural and artisanal coffee.

A chef with two Michelin stars

Chef Jordi Artal has earned two Michelin stars for his curious and creative take on Catalan cuisine at his Barcelona restaurant Cinc Sentits. Artal is known for serving dishes that highlight local and seasonal ingredients, inspired by the traditions and flavours of the region, both coastal and mountainous. The chef was once a director of a high-end culinary company in Silicon Valley before becoming a self-taught chef and entrepreneur. In 2004, he opened his first restaurant in Barcelona with his mother Roser and sister Amelia. Just four years after opening, he earned his first Michelin star, and in 2020, he achieved his second. Now, Jordi Artal will not only continue to run Cinc Sentits but will also establish a namesake restaurant at Time Out Market Barcelona, offering his unique culinary vision to all.

One of the best cocktail bars in the world

No big deal, but a cocktail bar that’s been consistently crowned the best in the world will be setting up shop in the market. We're talking about Paradiso, the speakeasy-style cocktail bar by bartender Giacomo Giannotti, which has become an international benchmark since its opening in 2015. Over its decade of history, it has not only attracted daily queues but has also garnered multiple awards, including repeated appearances in the prestigious World's Best Bars list. In addition to its unparalleled cocktails, the bar is also known for leading a bit of a green revolution, promoting a zero-waste, plastic-free cocktail model. Giannotti and his team will manage one of the bars within the market, which will be open until 1am.

The city’s best natural and artisanal coffee

If cocktails aren't your thing, don't worry – the market will also be home to the best natural coffee in the city, from Café de Indias. The team will offer different options that combine the flavour, body and aroma of Jamaican and Colombian coffee, which they roast themselves. The history of the café dates back to 1850, when it began as a small shop in Barcelona's Old Town under the name Cafés Garriga.

A programme of cultural activities

Food will certainly be the focus of the market – but the fun doesn’t stop there. A range of cultural activities will be held throughout the year, including performances by local artists like Drag Queen Sarah Brown and DJ Hall on Thursday and Saturday nights, respectively. Kids are well catered for, with family activities on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
