Barcelona’s food scene is one of the most enticing ones around – there’s no two ways about it – and while the city is still home to plenty of traditional Spanish taperias, there are also plenty of ventures plating up modern takes on Catalan food, as well as a shiny new Time Out Market.
But deciding on the city’s very best restaurant? That can only fall on the knowledgeable shoulders of Time Out Barcelona’s food critic Ricard Martín, who recently gave our roundup of the city’s best places to eat a gargantuan rejig.
So, topping the list as the very best restaurant in Barcelona right now is Cinc Sentits, an imaginative and high-end space that stimulates all five senses (hence the name!).
RECOMMENDED: This is the best restaurant in Amsterdam, according to Time Out.
Why should you go? Well, Ricard writes that ‘you’ll be blown away by their range of superb, original dishes, such as their surf ’n’ turf platter with crispy pork cheeks, saffron aioli and grilled squid.’
Not quick your schtick? He also recommends giving chef Jordi Artal’s ember-roasted sweet potato a go, which, after an hour of roasting, is stuffed with foam made from it’s own pulp, butter, hazelnut cream and herbal bread, all alongside 100-second cooked quail eggs and a puff of smoke.
Rounding out the top three are BaLó, a hybrid of London-Barcelona which offers an elaborate 12-course tasting menu, and Aürt, an intimate place to dine and watch the chefs work their culinary magic. You can have a read of all 30 of Barcelona’s best restaurants here.
Did you see that this Spanish island just introduced a ‘residents-only zone’?
Plus: This Spanish city is getting a brand-new art museum.
