Skiing – whether you’re going for the sport, the scenery, or the après boogie, there’s a lot that goes into making your trip to the mountains a cracker (particularly because often, skiing holidays don’t come cheap).

That’s why it’s handy to know which resorts really know what they’re doing when it comes to having all the essentials – plenty of ski lifts, long courses, fun events – waiting for you.

Omio, a transport booking platform, has analysed factors such as the cost of adult and youth tickets, the distance of the hard and short courses, the number of ski lifts and events, and produced a list of the best ski resorts in the world.

But which one is at the peak? Well, according to the research, it’s Arosa Lenzerheide in Switzerland, with an impressive overall rating of 91.73. But it’s no secret that Switzerland is a top skiing destination. In fact, we’ve got a roundup of the country’s very best slopes, all hand-picked by a local expert.

In second place it was Sölden, an Austrian resort which sits right on the border with Italy. Sound familiar? That’s because it appeared in the Bond movie Spectre, and is known for being a great spot for early-season skiing. In fact, it’s one of our favourite spots in the Austrian AlpsAustria swoops all over everywhere else in this list, claiming eight of the 10 spots.

Italy made a showing at number 7 – though we’d argue northern Italy has some of the best ski resorts in Europe. Check out our list of the best ones here.
