Even in a world where digital nomadism is becoming a norm and plenty of places have fairly simple citizenship requirements, the passport you hold still impacts your travel opportunities. And this mahoosive annual ranking by Nomad Capitalist is one of the best ways to learn a little more about where yours can get you.
While the Henley Passport Index uses International Air Transport Association data, Nomad Capitalist takes a look at 199 citizenships and how they fare in terms of visa-free travel, taxation of citizens, global perception, dual citizenship and personal freedom.
So, which passport is the world’s best? Well, in the company’s eighth round of research, it was Switzerland that came out on top, with a total score of 109. Ireland came in second place, and Portugal came in third. Europe pretty much swept the board by claiming nine of the top ten spots.
But the research also revealed the passports that ranked lowest of those 199 citizenships, and much like in Henley’s passport index, it was Afghanistan that came last, followed by Iraq, Yemen and Eritrea.
These have been named the ten best passports in the world
