Some cities are known for their vibrant cultural offering, whilst others are notorious nightlife spots; some are known for their food, and others are home to some immensely, effortlessly cool streets and neighbourhoods

But one city that has it all goin’ on, from the cafés to the nightclubs, the live music to the art, has just been named ‘City of the Year’ by Food and Travel magazine. The city in question? It’s Berlin!

Each year the magazine awards one city based on its cultural and culinary diversity, and the German capital beat the likes of Bordeaux, Cape Town, Dubrovnik, Girona, Seoul, Sydney, Tokyo and Zurich to claim the crown. No easy competition, right?

‘We are delighted with the readers’ recognition of Berlin’s creative scene. The title shows that food has now become a real reason for travel,’ said Burkard Kieker, a spokesperson for visitBerlin, according to The Berliner

Berlin’s charm is no news to us, as we named it the third best city in the whole world to visit this year (and the best in Europe), but the city’s cultural scene has been suffering somewhat, making this award especially good news.

We reported recently that despite a staggering €947 million being invested in Berlin’s cultural scene, the city’s world-renowned nightlife venues are still struggling with post-pandemic changes in our attitude to going out, and the latest casualty is the iconic Watergate, a Berlin nightlife institution

Here’s hoping this award gives Berlin the attention boost it deserves.
