This city has just been named the world’s best solo travel destination

TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Award-winners for 2025 have been unveiled, and lots of sprawling major cities make the list for solo travel destinations

Solo travel has been a major travel trend for years now – and the buzz doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Handily we’ve compiled a brilliant and comprehensive list of the best places in the world to travel alone, as well as this guide for women on the easiest ways to keep yourself safe

But we’re not the only ones with the lowdown on solo travel spots. TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards have just been published, and this year they’ve introduced a category on the world’s top solo destinations, based on the places solo travellers are heading to most.

Claiming first place? Turns out solo travellers love Seoul, South Korea’s fabulous capital city. Why? Well, like many major hubs, Seoul has more than enough going on to keep you entertained while you explore on your tod, but it also boasts an easy-to-use transport system, friendly locals, and has consistently ranked as the safest city in Asia. In second place it’s Kathmandu, Nepal’s magnificent and chaotic capital, and in third place it’s Cusco, a city which sits near the Sacred Valley of the Andes mountain range in south-eastern Peru
