Whether you’re a black americano purist or prefer your oat milk cappuccino with a shot of syrup, everyone’s got their go-to coffee order, and usually, their favourite spot to order it, too.
But one café in Vienna, Austria, has trumped the rest. Gota Coffee Experts claimed the crown as the very best coffee shop in Europe and the third-best in the entire world, according to this new ranking.
To land a place in the ranking, coffee shops were assessed based on barista skills, quality of food and coffee, ambiance, sustainability practices, customer service and consistency. The final list factors in a public vote, which accounts for 30 percent of the final score, plus insight from an expert panel which accounts for 70 percent.
Gota’s win is all the more impressive given there’s tough competition in Vienna, which is renowned for its ‘kaffeehaus’ culture. The Austrian capital boasts not only excellent roasteries but also world-famous spots such as Café Central – that’s partly why we named it one of Europe’s best solo female travel destinations. What better place is there to kick back after exploring, anyway?
Tim Wendelboe in Oslo, Norway, was the second-best coffee shop in Europe (and fifth overall). Kawa, a French coffeeshop in Paris, was third in Europe (and seventh overall). Read on for the full top 10.
