Overseas holidays were a tad disappointing this year. Whether you had grand adventures or low-key city breaks in the diary, chances are your trips were cancelled. If you did manage to go abroad, you were probably subject to tests, restrictions or quarantines (or even all three).
Either way, we’ve all got higher hopes for travel in 2021 – and it seems plenty of people are already ready to commit to a massive holiday for next year.

The travel booking website Expedia has revealed the places that are getting booked up for next year, and the list is looking pretty aspirational.
The dream destinations featured is led by The Maldives, the collection of white-sand islands sitting pretty in the Indian Ocean, thanks to their serene and isolated vibe.
Travellers have also been spanning up 2021 breaks in the likes of French Polynesia, Barbados, Mexico, Koh Samui, Mauritius, the Dominican Republic, Antigua and Barbuda, St Lucia and South Africa. (The data was based on UK bookings.)
It seems clear we have plans to go big in 2021, with blowout trips to luxury, sun-soaked destinations known for swanky accommodation and dreamy surroundings. Expedia reckons it’s down to a mix of missed honeymoons and birthday celebrations this year, as well as the fact that 2020 has left us all feeling in need of a good pamper.
