At Time Out, we just love going travelling – who knew? – but we love it even more when you arrive at a destination and are greeted with open arms.

Handily, Booking.com’s Traveller Review Awards are back for their 13th edition, and the platform has unveiled the world’s 10 most welcoming cities. It used a whopping 360 million verified reviews of places to stay, things to do and how to travel to compile the list of places with the biggest proportion of top reviews.

Claiming first place it’s Sigiriya, which is technically an ancient rock fortress near the city of Dambulla in Sri Lanka. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site which lies in the country’s ‘cultural triangle’, and Booking.com describes it as an ‘unforgettable blend of adventure and serenity’. You can read more about it here.

In second place was Carzola, a picturesque town in southern Spain which is tucked away amongst the Sierra de Carzola mountains and is full of little plazas and steep cobblestone streets, and in third place was Urbici, one of Brazil’s coldest towns located in the Serra Catarinense region.
