At Time Out, we do our best to bring you expertly curated lists on the best places to visit in the world, whether you’re after outstanding food, impressive culture or cool streets to explore.
However, it can’t hurt to have a second opinion – and TIME magazine has handily just published its list of the world’s greatest places. Based on nominations from the publication’s network of contributors, the list spotlights 100 ‘extraordinary destinations to explore’, including places to stay and visit.
The ‘places to stay’ list isn’t only made up of hotels – Belmond’s Eastern and Oriental Express, a luxury train journey through Malaysia that forms part of this swish round-the-world train ride, is included.
And the ‘places to visit’ category is nothing if not varied. The list features everything from this orb-shaped restaurant in Norway to the Saka Museum in Indonesia, a centre for Balinese cultural practices and expressions that we named one of the world’s best museum openings this year. Digital art museum teamLab Borderless in Tokyo also made TIME’s list – we have to agree, having named visiting the Tokyo institution one of best things to do in 2024. Great minds, right?
