Food – it really is the best thing in the world, right? That’s why discovering a fantastic new restaurant is so much fun, but also why being let down by one is so goddamn disappointing.

Head to one of these places though, and you’re sure to enjoy some lip-smacking grub. That’s because each of the restaurants on this list have been named as the best in their region by the World Culinary Awards, which were voted on by the public.

Claiming the overall prize as the best restaurant on the planet, it was Mezzaluna at Lebua State Tower in Bangkok, Thailand (which was also named as the best restaurant in Thailand and in Asia, obvs).

The restaurant has two Michelin stars and rustles up a seasonal, seven-course tasting menu but is best known for its permanent feature – Chef Ryuki’s signature wagyu beef. Yum.

Claiming the top spot for Europe was Alléno Paris, a dazzling French restaurant in (you guessed it) Paris, and representing Africa is Epice, an intimate and innovative restaurant in Franschhoek, South Africa

But the World Culinary Awards aren’t just mad about restaurants – there are plenty of categories voted on each year, including the best culinary destinations in Europe and the world

Here are the world’s best restaurants for 2024, organised by region

  • Asia – Mezzaluna at Lebua at State Tower, Thailand
  • Africa – Epice, South Africa
  • Caribbean – Fish by José Andrés at Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas
  • Europe – Alléno Paris, France
  • Indian Ocean – Ai KISU, Mauritius
  • South America – Mayta, Peru
  • Middle East – COYA Dubai, UAE
  • North America – Le Bernardin, USA
  • Oceania – Attica, Australia
