You might not have been on the dancefloor much over the last year, but exhilarating nights out are back. And if you’re after a dizzying night of techno or some obscure funk and soul, we’ve found the loudest, funnest places to head to.
Earlier this year, we quizzed 27,000 city-dwellers as part of the annual Time Out Index. Our aim? To find out the best cities in the world, based on a combination of things like community spirit, diversity, sustainability and – of course – the nightlife.
It was a tough ask, as most of us haven’t been dancing with a bunch of sweaty strangers in a while. But in some places, the ability to have a good time never quite went away. These are the ten best places in the world – that’s right, the whole world – to have a night out.
Top of the list was Manchester, where the combination of sticky-floored, student dives and iconic LGBTQ+ venues meant 89 percent of locals said it was a great place for a night out. In at number two was Buenos Aires, while Miami came third.
Here’s the top ten in full:
1. Manchester
2. Buenos Aires
3. Miami
4. Bangkok
5. Shanghai
6. São Paulo
7. Madrid
8. Tel Aviv
9. Dubai
10. Mexico City
And on the same subject, here’s a love letter to the Manchester clubbing scene. ‘It’s the place I felt most welcome,’ the writer says.
