What are your travel plans this year? Planning a trip to a country, a city or a resort that you haven’t been to before, or an itinerary full of local experiences

According to ABTA, all of the above are pretty likely. The travel association has crunched some numbers and found that 48 percent of people they surveyed are keen to jet to a new country this year (up from 41 percent at the start of 2024), and people are increasingly seeking out local experiences and activities: think wine-tasting, food tours or hiking.

Alongside this data, ABTA has published a list of the destinations to watch in 2025. One of the places included is Le Marche, a scenic region of central Italy where beautiful rural views are best enjoyed in nature park Parco del Conero. The region is also home to the Renaissance city of Urbino, the birthplace of Raphael.

Elsewhere on the list is Malawi in east Africa, a total haven for nature lovers. Majete Wildlife Reserve is the best place to catch the big five, according to ABTA, which is lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and buffalos, and for those keen to stretch their legs, there are plenty of hiking routes in the Shire Highlands.

Denmark, Belize, and the Canadian province of Quebec have also been included. Read on for the full roundup.
