How powerful is the passport in your pocket? While you might think of yours as just a little book that you need to board your flight, there’s actually a lot of weight placed on where you’re coming from.
According to VisaGuide’s Passport Index, which has just been updated for 2024, you’re winning right now if you have a Singapore passport. With a score of 91.27, it’s officially been named the strongest passport in the world.
VisaGuide’s score is based on factors like ease of global mobility, visa-free access, visa on arrival, eVisas, embassy approved visas, passport-free travel or whether passport holders are banned from entering certain countries.
Other factors are also considered for each destination, like GDP, Power Index, Tourism Index and Human Development Index and it evaluates 199 countries and territories to come up with the annual scoreboard.
Coming in second is Finland, the most powerful European passport to have, while Spain, Denmark and Italy round out the rest of the top five. Here’s the full top 10 ranking.

As for the USA and the UK, they come in at 43rd and 38th respectively. And the bottom of the list? The countries whose passports have the lowest ratings include Somalia, Afghanistan, Syria, Pakistan, Sudan, Iraq and Nigeria.
