Sure, comfy beds and big breakfast buffets are important when it comes to a great hotel. But to make it on the list of the World’s 50 Best Hotels, a hotel has to really go the extra mile.

The annual awards are chosen by 600 industry experts (travel journalists, hoteliers and seasoned luxury travellers), who vote on the planet’s most outstanding places to stay. They look at stuff like standout design, an interesting location, immaculate service and much, much more.

So, what’s the best hotel in the world in 2024? Capella Bangkok, a dazzling building overlooking the Chao Phraya River in the Charoenkrung district of Thailand’s magnetic capital, claimed the prize.

This place has 101 rooms, including suites and villas, and rates start at around €540. Was the best hotel in the world ever gonna be budget-friendly? Probs not, but for your money, you get ‘bespoke Bangkok’ services such as a guided shopping spree or a private meditation session, organised by the hotel.

In second place it’s Passalacqua, a gloriously plush hotel on Lake Como which claimed the top spot in 2023, and in third place it’s the Rosewood Hong Kong, a swish skyrise hotel which came in second place last year. Four hotels from the UK made the list, but check out all the worldwide locations that have been commended below.
