What makes the world go around? Is it love, is it money? If you ask us, it’s food – that’s why we put so much love into our roundup of the best cities in the world to eat (and why TasteAtlas and TripAdvisor have tucked into the conversation, too).

But whether you’re a restaurateur, a chef, a waiter or just a diner, everyone understands the gravity of getting recognised by the Michelin Guide, and that’s why the platform’s newly announced list of the most exciting foodie destinations for 2025 is so enticing.

One of the entries for the Americas is Mexico City, ‘where ancient traditions meet cutting-edge creativity, meaning food lovers can get a taste for street-side tacos to Two-Star Mexican gastronomy’, according to Michelin.

The guide only expanded to include Mexico in May 2024, and it recommends two-starred restaurants Pujol and Quintonil, as well as places such as Mercado de San Juan for street food. Classic dishes include tacos al pastor, tamales (corn dough which is usually served in a banana leaf, filled with meat and cheese) and pozole (a limey, hearty soup crammed with either pork or chicken). Here are our favourite CDMX restaurants

In Asia, the Chinese coastal province of Fujian is recognised for its light, aromatic broths and seafood dishes, and in Europe, Vienna is spotlighted, thanks to an exciting emergence of modern takes on the city’s traditional Austro-Hungarian roots.

These are the world’s most exciting food destinations, according to the Michelin Guide

  • Austin, USA
  • Miami, USA
  • Mexico City, Mexico

Asia

  • Bangkok, Koh Samui and Phuket, Thailand
  • Osaka, Japan
  • Fujian, China
  • Da Nang, Vietnam

  • Bath, England
