Are you the type of traveller who considers the hotel a destination in itself? Well, we’ve got the perfect list for you. Travel magazine Travel + Leisure has recently released its annual list of the best new hotels in the world – and it’s just as cushy and luxurious as you’d expect.
The magazine’s selection this year was split into eight different categories, from beach getaways to affordable luxury. There’s everything from mountaintop retreats to five-star beach stays – so as long as you have some cash to splash, your tastes will be catered for.
In the city hotels category, luxury chain Four Seasons’ Nashville branch got a nod for its music-themed decor, while New York’s Nine Orchard is likened to ‘staying in a chic friend's apartment’. Other hotels in the category include the W in Rome, London’s The Twenty Two, and Casa Polanco in Mexico City.
When it comes to beach getaways, you’ll find (yet another) Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo, on Mexico’s rugged coastline. Brand-new openings include Cosme in Greece and Fasano Trancoso in Brazil, while Bermuda’s Cambridge Beaches – which boasts four private beaches – recently underwent a full renovation.
The adventure resorts category includes Italy’s OasyHotel – simple wooden lodges perched on a Tuscan hilltop – alongside Mexico’s Naviva, Duke’s Camp in Botswana, and Lolebezi in Zambia. And from Berlin’s Château Royal to Short Stories Hotel in Los Angeles and Miami’s Life House, there are also plenty of options in the affordable luxury category. (There are some good-value rooms here, but please do take ‘affordable’ with a large pinch of salt).
The other categories in the list include over-the-top retreats, US resorts, and wellness escapes. Read the full list and start dreaming of a mega-luxurious vacay on Travel + Leisure.
