It might feel like there are lists of trending destinations coming out of our ears right now (we’ve already covered Forbes, booking.com and Conde Nast Traveller, to name a few), but with so many destinations crippling under the weight of overtourism right now, it’s probably best to cast the net as wide as possible when it comes to travel inspo.
And now, it’s Airbnb’s turn! The short-term holiday let platform has had a look at the destinations which are experiencing surges in their searches among all kinds of holiday-goers (solo travellers, families and big groups) and produced a list of trending destinations.
Claiming the top spot it’s Puerto Escondido, a trendy Pacific coast resort in Oaxaca state, Mexico. Does it ring a bell? That might be because this place, with its deep underwater canyon which amplifies swells in the water to create huge waves, is considered one of the best places in the world for surfing.
In second place it’s Green Bay, Wisconsin’s third largest city, and in third place it’s Tokyo, Japan’s sprawling capital city – but check out the full top 20 below.
