Update: Sadly, the rumours of a sequel to The Holiday have subsequently been debunked by Nancy Meyers on Instagram and Kate Winslet. ‘I read something about that, but it’s the first I've heard of it,’ Winslet said at the world premiere of Avatar: The Way of Water. ‘I promise you not an agent or a representative or anyone from the first one around has had any conversation with me about that. Hand on heart, that’s never come up.’

But what would be more of a Christmas miracle than a filmmaker waking up one day to discover that millions of people are desperate for her and her cast to revisit their much-loved romantic classic? Maybe this story has more distance to run...
It’s beloved by millions, is a regular Christmas screenings fixture, recently had a screening with full orchestra – yes, including that big drum at the back – and has even spawned a TikTok trend. But one thing The Holiday hasn’t had is a sequel. Until now.
A source tells The Sun that the original cast – the recently unretired Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Jack Black – have all signed up for The Holiday 2.
‘The plan is to start rolling on scenes next year, primarily in the UK and in Europe,’ a source tells the UK tabloid, ‘but the main talent are all signed up and on board.’
‘It’ll be funny, poignant, and heartwarming – just what everyone wants for Christmas.’
Avatar has taken 13 years to spawn a sequel, but The Holiday is saying ‘hold my eggnog’ with a second instalment a full 16 years after the first one stole our hearts and racked up a (mince)meaty $200 million at the box office.
Directed by romcom queen Nancy Meyers, it followed English village resident Iris (Winslet) and glam US socialite Amanda (Diaz) as they swap homes for the holidays – and fall in love with their dream guys (Law and Black) in the process.
No word from The Sun’s source on when filming will get underway or who will direct it, though Meyers would have to be a hot favourite to oversee all this reunion of romcom greats. Watch this space.
