The emergence of hybrid working has been a real game-changer over the last couple of years, with most of us wondering how we ever went into the office five days a week. And, if you can make it work, the freedom to work from home can mean the freedom to work from pretty much anywhere.

There are loads of places offering digital nomad visas, but if you’re just after a short break, Notta.ai has looked into wifi availability, co-working spaces, internet speeds, rent prices and the cost of food across a bunch of destinations to compile a comprehensive guide to the world’s best workation-friendly countries.

Topping the list? It’s the Netherlands. The country brags fast download speeds, a high number of coworking spaces per 10,000 square miles and around 594 free wifi spots per 100 square miles. It sits at the most expensive end when it comes to food and rent, but overall got an impressive ‘workation’ score of 97.41.

We aren’t too surprised the Netherlands has scored so well – Amsterdam and Rotterdam with their pockets of nature and brilliant cultural scenes would both be excellent places to work away for a couple of weeks, but there’s a whole load of other Netherlands cities to check out, too.

Portugal came in second place with 94.04 and the UK came third with 89.82. In fact, only one place was claimed by a non-European nation – read on to find out which.

These are the world’s 10 best countries for ‘workations’

  1. Netherlands
  2. Portugal
  3. United Kingdom
  4. Belgium
