Watching the final run of the blockbuster Netflix show will not be a choice – not after all the drama, intrigue, scurrilous affairs, constitutional crises and dark nights of the soul that have gone before over five richly upholstered seasons.
Season 6 is now due to run as far as the wedding of Charles and Camilla in 2005, bringing Harry and William – and their relationship with their dad – into focus as key characters in the drama.
This final season will draw to a conclusion 60 hours of television. The Crown has made household names out of stars such as Claire Foy, Vanessa Kirby, Emma Corrin and Josh O’Connor.
When is The Crown season six released on Netflix?
The wait is almost over, but there’s a slight catch. Netflix confirmed that the final series of The Crown will be split into two parts.
Four episodes will debut on Netflix on November 16, with the final six episodes released on December 14.
Splitting episodes up seems to be a new tactic at Netflix after the streamer recently did the same with The Witcher and Stranger Things.

As always with The Crown, a new series brings back returning cast members alongside fresh faces.
Imelda Staunton once again returns as Queen Elizabeth II as she celebrates her Golden Jubilee in 2002. Elizabeth Debicki and Dominic West return as Princess Diana and Prince Charles.
Jonathan Pryce is back as Prince Philip and Lesley Manville returns as the scene stealing Princess Margaret.
Joining the cast are young actors Rufus Kampa as Prince William and Fflyn Edwards as Prince Harry, while Ed McVey and Luther Ford taking over the roles of the princes in the second part of the series. Joining them will be Meg Bellamy as Kate Middleton. These will be debut roles for all three actors.
Outside of the royals, Bertie Carvel returns as Tony Blair, the British Prime Minister throughout the show’s eight-year span. Salim Daw returns as Mohamed Al-Fayed and Khalid Abdalla is back as his son and Diana’s lover, Dodi Fayed.
What will happen in The Crown’s final series?
Season six covers events from 1997 though to 2005, with the timespan including several key events to the history of the royal family.
Picking up from the events of season five, the first four episodes will explore the blossoming romance between Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed before a fateful car journey in Paris has devastating consequences for the royal family and the British nation.
The final chapter of The Crown will be told across six episodes as Prince William tries to integrate back into life at Eton in the wake of his mother’s death, before encountering Kate Middleton as the latest royal fairy tale begins.
As the wave of public opinion continues to ebb and flow, the Queen celebrates her Golden Jubilee in 2002 while the future of the monarchy takes shape with the marriage of Charles and Camilla.
Expect to see the royals forced to adapt to an evolving society, with such landmark moments as the global impact of 9/11 and the Iraq war likely to feature.
Where was The Crown series 6 filmed?
Filming for the final series of The Crown is thought to have started in September 2022 but was paused following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
The crew were spotted filming in Paris soon after the production resumed. Despite a Netflix spokesperson previously saying they wouldn’t show the exact moment of the car crash that killed Princess Diana, pictures emerged of a Mercedes heading towards a tunnel while being chased by paparazzi on motorbikes, recreating Diana’s final moments.
The cast were also spotted filming on location in Scotland in March 2023, with locals getting a glimpse of the show’s Kate and Wills. The couple met and fell in love at St Andrews University, so expect sickly sweet love scenes aplenty.
Filming for the series wrapped in April 2023 after shooting the wedding of Charles and Camilla, with York Minster cathedral standing in Windsor’s St George’s Chapel.
Will there be more of The Crown in the future?
At the moment everyone involved says this really is the end of The Crown, but it’s hard to imagine Netflix will be able to resist coming back for another bite of the cake in the future. After all, current royal headlines are as dramatic as anything screenwriters could dream up.
Maybe Netflix will recreate their Bridgerton tactics and do a spin-off series set in the past. Anyone up for The Crown: Queen Victoria? As the second-longest serving monarch in British history, there would be no shortage of storylines.
