If you thought Pixar has the monopoly on dough-based hidden secrets with its Pizza Planet truck cameos, think again. Some dedicated Stranger Things fans have stumbled upon a quirky and fun Easter egg in the latest season of the smash-hit Netflix sci-fi horror.

Dialling the number on the side of Argyle’s Surfer Boy Pizza van – (805) 457-4992 – will put you through to a 60-second recorded message from the man himself, hazily listing the available menu options and offering some tips of his own.

‘We make everything fresh here at Surfer Boy, except for our pineapple, which comes from a can, but I still recommend slapping some juicy pineapple on,’ Argyle tells the caller before placing them on hold.

If his opinion on pineapple pizza toppings wasn’t already divisive enough, Argyle splits opinion further by insisting blue cheese is a must, despite saying it’s ‘damn near mould.’

For those new to the show, Argyle (Eduardo Franco) is the cannabis-loving best friend of Jonathan Byers, who delivers not just pizzas, but the kind of smoked-out vibes that frankly we all need while being traumatised by Vecna et al.

The message should bring a smile to the face of any Stranger Things fan – but remember to use international dialling codes if you’re calling from outside North America. And to check your mobile provider’s rates.

Before landing the role of Argyle, Franco auditioned for the role of Eddie Munson on Stranger Things, with co-star Joseph Quinn eventually landing the gig.

‘I’m so happy it went to Joseph,’ Franco tells Entertainment Insider. ‘Joseph is incredible. He’s so lovely. They made a beautiful decision. I back it a hundred percent.’

Gigs, albums and Broadway shows: here’s where you can see the Stranger Things cast next.

A Stranger Things play is coming to London, probably.
