The end of 2024 is hurtling towards us, so after you’ve decided where to visit this autumn, it’s time to start looking ahead for travel inspo for the new year – and SkyScanner’s Travel Trend report can help us with that.

Each year, the platform publishes a roundup of destinations that have seen the biggest surge in popularity based on searches by UK and US travellers. 2024 belonged to Marseille, but what about 2025?

In the UK, SkyScanner’s research found travellers’ interest is increasingly turning towards lesser-known, underrated destinations. Reggio Calabria in Italy is the top trending destination for UK travellers, with searches up by a staggering 541 percent.

The US saw a similar trend towards undiscovered holiday spots – more specifically, Americans are looking at more travel to overseas destinations, with an emphasis on relaxing breaks. Who can blame them, right? The top trending destination was Grand Turk Island in Turks and Caicos (searches were up 528 percent).

There was some overlap in the lists of trending destinations. Tromsø, a town that sits at the edge of the Arctic among the Fjords in Norway, saw searches up 129 percent in the US and 85 percent in the UK, meaning it ranks in third and seventh place, respectively.
