In case you’re not already keenly aware — and celebrating accordingly — May is Scottish Whisky Month. If nobody thought to tell you that and you’re now lamenting the wasted excuse to imbibe some fancy single malt, never fear: this Scottish whisky maker is here to help you get in the spirit (literally) with an exclusive experience at their distillery near Dumfries.
Over four dates in June and August, four pairs of whisky lovers will get to experience what it’s like to be a distiller for the day with a two-night stay at the Annandale Distillery. Sleeping in a spacious converted barn next door to the distillery site, guests will be able to take part in every stage of the distillation process, from meeting the malt delivery to milling and mashing the barley, fermentation, firing up the stills and filling the casks.
Each pair will also be treated to an exclusive ‘tasting experience’, plus a slap-up evening meal at historic pub the Globe Inn. Once a favourite watering hole of a certain Robbie Burns, this Dumfries institution has two Michelin-recognised chefs in the kitchen and serves up a sumptuous fine-dining menu alongside more than 300 whiskies.
And after two action-packed days learning about the art of whisky-making, guests can will be able to take a bottle of Annandale’s Single Malt Scotch home with them. Provided they haven’t drunk it already, that is.
The experience is available to book exclusively through Airbnb. But be quick about it – with only four dates available, it’s bound to get booked up before you can so much as locate your whisky stones. We’re sure you’ll have a dram good time.
Another great reason to visit Scotland: Dundee will soon get its own incredibly extra version of the Eden Project.
Plus: here are five really beautiful beer gardens for pints with views across the UK.
