Ryan Reynolds’ inevitable journey to sanctification in Wales has taken another giant leap forward.
Not content with co-owning Wrexham Football Club with Rob McElhenney, helping it to promotion and being hailed as a ‘Welsh boyo’ by Anthony Hopkins in the process, the movie star has just sealed a deal to broadcast Welsh language TV shows in the US.
The Free Guy and Deadpool star is collaborating with S4C, Wales’s free-to-air TV channel, to deliver six hours of Welsh programming on his Fubo streaming service each week.
‘Welsh Wednesdays’ is part of Reynolds’ passionate ongoing effort to promote the Welsh language. In 2021, his Netflix action flick Red Notice was released with Welsh subtitles.
‘There is an alarming lack of Welsh content available for American viewing pleasure,’ Reynolds said. ‘That stops today.’
‘We're so grateful to S4C for helping bring Welsh programming to a broader audience,’ he added. ‘And to that broader audience, don't worry, I am told there will be subtitles.’
