In news that has entirely not read the room, the world’s wealthiest cities – based on the fastest-growing millionaire populations – have been named for 2023. That’s right: there are still millionaires out there, even in the cost-of-living crisis, and they’re multiplying.
Henley & Partners compiled the list by tracking the spending habits of over 150,000 high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) from 97 cities across the world. The firm primarily focused on wealthy individuals with the work titles Founder, Chairperson, CEO, and Director.
Top of the rich list this year is New York City, which boasts a whopping 58 billionaires. The runner-up city is Japan’s capital Tokyo, which is home 290,300 HNWIs.
USA’s The Bay Area is third on the list, probably thanks to the well-paid tech workers in Silicon Valley. This year, only one European city made it in the top ten wealthiest cities: London (no surprises there). Most of the list is dominated by cities in the US and China.
Here are the top 10 wealthiest cities in the world according to Henley & Partners:
- New York City, USA
- Tokyo, Japan
- The Bay Area, USA
- London, UK
- Singapore
- Los Angeles, USA
- Hong Kong
- Beijing, China
- Shanghai, China
- Sydney, Australia
