The annual list of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants is an essential date in any serious foodie’s calendar. One of the year’s most prestigious lists of elite restaurants, it shows which eateries around the world, from brand-new upstarts to established favourites, should be top of everyone’s ‘dine here before you die’ list.
Unlike the Michelin guide, with its tiers of stars, the World’s 50 Best Restaurants winners are ranked in order – and the list gets shaken up each year, thanks to a rule introduced in 2019 that says no previous Number Ones can win twice. Top of the list last year was the three-Michelin-starred Noma in Copenhagen, followed by Geranium (also in Copenhagen) and Asador Etxebarri in Atxondo, Spain.
