2023 has certainly been a big year for travel, with the industry making big strides towards its post-pandemic activity and plenty of destinations seeing visitors flocking back.
But some places have soared above everywhere else in popularity, and holiday operator Travel Republic has done some analysis on search volume and TikTok data to identify the most sought-after destinations.
So, where was the most trending holiday spot of 2023? The answer might come as a surprise to some, but it was actually Benidorm. Garnering a whopping 550,070 holiday-related searches, and 158 million TikTok hashtag views, it completely dominates the ranking. Maybe it’s time we let the Spanish resort shed its tacky reputation.
Zanzibar claims spot number two, with its popularity skyrocketing by 110 percent. It featured in 144,460 holiday-related searches and 25 million TikTok hashtag views, but those glisteningly white beaches and impossibly fresh fish dishes do speak for themselves.
Greece claims third place, Dubai claims fourth, and Mexico fifth. The list is a culmination of holiday spots all over the world – but clearly most of us were after some sun in 2023.
