At Time Out, we’re big advocates for heading on holiday in the autumn – when you think about it, it’s really the perfect time. There are plenty of places still hot in October, and plenty of lovely autumn destinations in Europe whether you’re clinging to summer or excitedly anticipating the holidays.

And if you’re on a budget, the low season is an even better time to head away. Car rental company DiscoverCars.com have analysed a whole load of factors to see which cities are best for not maxing the budget, and they include the average price of a week-long hotel stay, car rentals, the number of affordable restaurants, budget hotels and the average rainfall and temperature.

So, where’s the best autumn getaway, according to this research? Well, it’s Marrakech. That’s right, the Moroccan capital scored 108 out of a maximum 144, thanks to the average price of a week-long stay being just £169 (€198) and a balmy average temperature of 19C.

In second place was Seville (which was also just named the most walkable city in Europe). The Andalusian city scored 104 overall, largely thanks to the affordable places to eat. In third place, it was Lisbon, which scored 98 and is the cheapest place on the list to rent a car. Both Spain and Italy claim three spots each – find the full list below.
