Walking is great. Whether it’s a hot girl walk through a stroll-friendly city or a mammoth hike along not-so-well-trodden paths, getting around on two legs does wonders for your body and for your mind, and the views can be rather spectacular.

But where in the world has the most options when it comes to a proper, boot-wearing, backpack-lugging hike? Titan Travel tours analysed the number of hiking trails, walking tours and percentage of protected land, and apparently (if not unsurprisingly) it’s the USA!

That’s right, the US is home to a whopping 5,669 walking tours, a jaw-dropping 253,793 hiking trails and around 13 percent of the land is protected. Here are our favourite hiking routes in the US, to get you started on the right track.

In second place was the UK, where 27 percent of the land is protected, and where 3,126 walking tours and 49,365 hiking trails are on offer – we’ve got a roundup of our favourites from across the isles, too.
